The price of electric motorcycles in Indonesia is becoming more and more affordable. Indeed, many of them are sold at cheaper prices than conventional combustion engines. This clearly makes the government's mission in accelerating the procurement of electric vehicles faster.

The price of electric motors becomes more affordable

Price becomes one of the crucial factors for consumers in choosing a vehicle. Therefore, when talking about switching to electric vehicles should be supported by the price of sale. At least the selling price of electric vehicles must be cheaper when compared to vehicles with petrol engines.

Although it was originally more expensive than a gasoline motor, electric motorcycles with more affordable banners are starting to appear, especially after the government decided to provide Rs. 7 million in reduced price aid for electric motors.

The granting of Rp.7 million of aid for the electric motorcycle is regulated in the Industry Minister's Regulation No. 6 of 2023 on Guidelines for Government Aid for the Purchase of Electric Motorcycle Vehicles based on Two-Wheeled Batteries. It is planned that this year there will be 200,000 new electric motorcycles subsidized.

But not all electric motorcycle purchases can get a discount of Rs. 7 million.

The government requires that manufacturers comply with the requirements of a minimum of 40% domestic component level.

“The fulfillment of values TKDN as intended in paragraph (2) is proven by a TKDN certificate in accordance with statutory provisions," the regulations read.

As a result, manufacturers are competing to present electric motorbikes with a TKDN of at least 40%. You can also get a discount of IDR 7 million. So far there are 25 electric motorbikes that can get a discount of IDR 7 million as stated on the official website of the Information System for Providing Assistance for Purchasing Two-Wheeled Electric Vehicles (SISAPIRa).

Comparison with Gasoline Motor Prices

In comparison, with some electric motorbike models, the price of petrol motorbikes is still more expensive. For example, one of the quite popular conventional fuel motorbikes like the Honda Beat is sold at prices starting at IDR 18.05 million. Likewise, the Honda Scoopy motorbike is offered at prices starting at IDR 21,875 million. Continuing there is the Honda Vario 160 priced at IDR 26,639 million.

Apart from Honda motorbikes, Yamaha also offers a range of models at prices of IDR 17 million and above, especially for automatic motorbikes. For example, the Yamaha Gear 125 sells for IDR 18,205 million, there is also the Yamaha X-Rider 125 with a price tag of IDR 19,960 million.

Other Yamaha motorbikes that are no less popular also have prices above IDR 20 million. The Yamaha Lexi, for example, is sold at prices starting at IDR 23 million. Next, the Yamaha Aerox 155 is offered for IDR 27.425 million. Moving on, there is the Yamaha Nmax which is now being sold starting from IDR 31,615 million.

Suzuki also offers its motorbikes at prices of IDR 19 million and above. For example, the Suzuki Nex II automatic motorbike is sold starting at IDR 19.355 million. Suzuki's popular motorbike, the Satria, now costs IDR 28.6 million.

If you pay attention, the prices of petrol motorbikes are now more expensive than electric motorbikes. In the list of subsidized electric motorbike prices, 15 models are listed as having prices below IDR 20 million. It is hoped that with a more affordable price, the government's mission to reduce carbon can be realized more quickly.
