On Wednesday, June 11, 2025President Prabowo Subianto officially launched the MV3-EV "Pandu" electric tactical vehicle made by PT Pindad at the opening of the Indo Defense Expo & Forum at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta. In the series of events, Prabowo signed a plaque attached to the hood of the car as a symbol of the beginning of the era of environmentally friendly tactical vehicles made nationally.
The name “Pandu” is taken from the legendary figure of Mahabharata who is known as a pioneer or trailblazer. This naming symbolizes the hope that this electric vehicle will become a pioneer in the development of the military electric car ecosystem in Indonesia. In addition to its operational role, this vehicle is also expected to be able to “guide” the country's military automotive sector into a new era.
Previously, the MV3 platform had been used for various variants such as the Garuda Limousine (for the presidency), the Maung variants "Tangguh", "Spartan", "Jelajah", and "Komando". Now there is an electric version, namely the MV3‑EV, which emphasizes PTPindad's steps in integrating green innovation into defense products.
In terms of technical aspects, Pandu is equipped with a 160HP (125kW) electric motor capable of producing speeds of up to 100km/h. The battery has a power of 292V (150,000mAh), which is enough to cover a distance of around 170km in full operating conditions. This performance is equivalent to the Morino EV model from Pindad.
Vice President of PTPindad, Rakhmad Aryo, stated that Pandu is a development of the EV3 operational vehicle that has been supplied to the Ministry of Defense. The transformation from a diesel engine to a full electric motor is proof of Pindad's readiness to switch to the era of zero-emission vehicles.
Furthermore, Rakhmad emphasized that Pindad wants to build a domestic electric vehicle ecosystem through local component production. All Pandu spare parts are planned to be produced domestically, in line with government efforts through Presidential Regulation Number 55 of 2019 concerning the acceleration of the national energy transition.
During the inauguration ceremony, Prabowo was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan and Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, signifying the government's strong commitment to electronic vehicle innovation in the defense sector. When signing, Prabowo also left a short message, "vehicles made by the nation's children", as a form of appreciation for local creations.
The launch of the Pandu MV3-EV is not just a ceremonial event, but a sign that Indonesia is entering an era of independent, environmentally friendly and efficient defense technology. With the presence of this vehicle, Pindad signals its readiness to supply the main tools of the electric weapons system for the TNI and Polri, while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
